Uterine fibroids are muscular tumour growths in the wall of your uterus which range from the size of a grape to some even a golf ball. They often appear in women of childbearing age. Usually these little benign tumours show no sign of symptoms and disappear on their own. But some of them cause extreme pain, and discomfort followed by severe symptoms and excessive blood loss. Fibroids can put pressure on the bladder causing frequent urination and rectal pressure; depending on their location they can also cause infertility in women.

The hormones oestrogen and progesterone control the growth of fibroids, during pregnancy when the hormones are high fibroids seem to grow rapidly than usual. They also stop growing and shrink after a woman reaches menopause.

Untreated fibroids lead to fertility issues and may even lead to infertility. This causes issues in relationships due to the symptoms and negative effects on fertility. These symptoms affect the quality of life and need to be treated as soon as possible. Fibroids get worse with time.
