What Is A Regular Menstrual Period?

The menstrual cycle is counted from the first day of one period to the first day of the next. Menstrual bleeding normally happens every 21 to 35 days and last 2 to 7 days.

For the first few years after menstruation begins, long cycles are common. However, menstrual cycles tend to shorten as people age.

A healthy period has several features:

–        The cycle is between 21-35 days

–        The period is pain-free

–        Bleeding only occurs during the days of the period

–        The blood should be a healthy red colour

–        There is no pre-menstrual tension (PMT)

However, sometimes periods can be irregular. In this blog we will learn how they can be regulated, using natural methods.

What Causes Irregular Menstrual Periods?

The condition of prolonged and irregular periods is called menorrhagia. The symptoms include a period that lasts longer than 7 days or heavy bleeding. There are many causes of irregular periods.

The following is a list of causes of irregular periods:

–        Medications:

Some anti-inflammatory or hormone medications can affect menstrual bleeding. Heavy bleeding is also a side effect of IUD birth control.

–        Hormone changes:

An excess of the hormones called progestin or estrogen, which regulate the lining of the uterus, may cause heavy bleeding. Hormone imbalances occur most frequently in people who have recently started menstruating or those approaching menopause.

–        Medical conditions:

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), endometriosis, inherited blood disorders, and benign growths and cancers have all been found to possibly cause menstrual irregularity.

–        Stress:

Stress can cause hormonal fluctuations. This can disturb the menstrual cycle.

–        Gaining or losing a significant amount of weight:

Obesity can disturb menstruation. This happens because excess weight can cause a growth in the hormone estrogen which can cause excessive bleeding.

How To Regulate Periods:

There are several natural ways that periods can be regulated:

–        Yoga:

Yoga has also been shown to reduce menstrual pain and emotional symptoms associated with menstruation, such as depression and anxiety. Practicing yoga may help regulate hormones and menstrual cycles.

–        Healthy weight:

Changes in your weight can affect your period. If you’re in a larger body, losing weight could help regulate your periods. However, extreme weight loss or being underweight can cause irregular menstruation. That is why it is important to maintain a moderate weight.

–        Exercise:

Exercise has many health benefits that can help your periods. It can help you reach or maintain a moderate weight that can help regulate your periods.

–        Ginger:

Ginger is used as a home remedy for treating irregular periods. It has benefits related to menstruation, primarily related to relieving pain.

–        Cinnamon:

It helped regulate menstrual cycles and can be an effective treatment option for women with PCOS. Ginger significantly reduces menstrual pain and bleeding, and relieves nausea and vomiting associated with primary dysmenorrhea.

–        Vitamins:

Low levels of vitamin D are linked to irregular periods. This is why doctors suggest taking vitamin D in order to regulate menstruation. Vitamin B may lower the risk of premenstrual symptoms.

–        Apple cider vinegar:

Drinking apple cider vinegar daily may restore ovulatory menstruation in women with PCOS.

–        Pineapple:

This fruit is a popular home remedy for menstrual issues. It contains bromelain, an enzyme that has shown evidence that it can soften the lining of the uterus and regulate periods.

Period health is very important. There are several illnesses that are related to the female reproductive system. A regular period cycle can protect you from these diseases such as polycystic ovary syndrome, fibroids, etc.
