Common Gynaecological Conditions:

Gynecology is the branch of medicine that studies and treats women’s diseases, specifically conditions of the reproductive organs. A gynaecological condition is a disorder that affects the normal functioning of female reproductive organs. These include organs such as the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina and vulva.

These are some of the most common gynaecological conditions and diseases:

  • Cervical cancer.
  • Endometrial cancers.
  • Endometriosis and fibroids.
  • Heavy menstrual bleeding.
  • Ovarian cancer.

Gynecological Conditions that Run in the Family:

Gynecological disorders can be inherited. There are multiple gene mutations that are associated with common these disorders , such as leiomyomas, polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, and ovarian cancer.

  • Leiomyomas:

Leiomyomas are tumours that arise from the myometrial layer of the uterus. Family history is a known risk factor for the development of leiomyomas. Family studies show that there are genes that contribute to the genesis of leiomyomas.

  • PCOS:

PCOS does run in the family in some cases. If female relatives, such as your mother, sister or aunt, have PCOS, there is a greater risk of you developing it as well.

  • Endometriosis:

There is research that suggests that endometriosis may be hereditary. The interactions between genes and the person’s environment together play a role.

  • Ovarian cancer:

Many ovarian cancers are a result of inherited mutations genes that are passed down in families.

Treatments for Gynaecological Problems:

Each of these conditions have different treatments:

Leiomyoma:

For leiomyoma, one of the treatments is myomectomy. It is the surgical removal of fibroids and enables the woman to become fertile.

PCOS:

Medication is a common treatment for women with PCOS who want to get pregnant.

Endometriosis:

Pain therapy and hormone therapy are often used to treat endometriosis.

Ovarian cancer:

Ovarian cancer can usually be done through both surgery and chemotherapy.

However, there are some common treatments for all of them. These are lifestyle changes that include a healthier diet, a regular exercise regime and good sleeping patterns. These can improve your overall health and can cure most of the symptoms of these conditions.
